Hi, I'm John Machado. I'm a Professor of Art History & Arts Management and CEO/President of an arts nonprofit in Southern California.

John Machado has been a full-time professor of art history at Chaffey College since 2005. After completing undergraduate work in art history at San Diego State University he earned his graduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin specializing in the culture and art history of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. He has worked at various museums and galleries and taught art history at universities and colleges in California, Oregon and Texas. Machado teaches courses in art history covering the complete Western survey, as well as, the Ancient Americas, Africa, and the islands of the South Pacific. At Chaffey College he also served as the founding Chair of the Public Art Committee for eleven years. 

In 2015 Machado returned to graduate school to attain a Master’s in Arts Management from Claremont Graduate University, Drucker School of Management, Center for Business & Management of the Arts. Upon graduating he created an arts business management undergraduate program to support entrepreneurship in the creative industries.

In 2016 Machado founded The Arts Area, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and currently serves as CEO and President of the Board. The Arts Area provides fiscal sponsorship, professional development, resource support, and civic advocacy to develop and support economic sustainability and equitable access in the creative industries of San Bernardino, Riverside, and East Los Angeles Counties. In this position he also serves on various city and regional advisory committees.

Right up there with the arts and teaching is my love of travel.

Domestically I have visited thirty-nine of the states and lived in California, Texas and Oregon. My international travel destinations include Austria, Azores, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jamaica, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, twenty-five states in Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Slovakia, Spain, and Switzerland.
